Tallei holds a degree in economics, and taught television journalism at the Institute for Journalism Training in Urbino.

At Sky since 2004, he covered national politics from 2012 to 2016, particularly the 5 Star Movement’s debut in Parliament and Matteo Renzi’s experience at Palazzo Chigi. He covered Italian news and major events for the preceding six years, including the earthquake in L’Aquila and the investigation of Meredith Kercher’s murder.

From 2016 to 2021, he was a Brussels correspondent, covering all issues related to the European Union. Events covered included the Greek debt crisis, terrorist attacks in France, Brexit, tensions between Rome and Brussels over Italian debt, the French presidential elections in 2017 and those in Germany in 2021, the pandemic in Europe and the birth of the Next Generation EU.

He is a former contributor to Sole 24 Ore and is the author of La donna del soldato [The Soldier’s Woman] (Edizioni Anordest, 2011) with Grazia Longo, and #ArrivoArrivo, la corsa di @matteorenzi da Twitter a Palazzo Chigi [#I’mAlmostThere: @MatteoRenzi from Twitter to Parliament] (Fazi, 2014) with Matteo Grandi.
He played the role of himself in the film Benvenuto presidente!, starring Claudio Bisio.
