Nathan Thrall is an American writer and journalist based in Jerusalem. In 2024, he won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for A Day in the Life of Abed Salama: Anatomy of a Jerusalem Tragedy (Metropolitan Books, 2023). An international bestseller, it has been translated into over thirty languages, was an Editors’ Choice pick for the New York Times Book Review, and was nominated as a book of the year by over twenty publications, including The New Yorker, The Economist and Time.

He is also the author of The Only Language They Understand. His journalism, essays and criticism has appeared in the London Review of Books, The Guardian, The New York Times Magazine, and The New York Review of Books.

For ten years he has directed the Arab-Israeli Project within the International Crisis Group, the transnational NGO consulting with governments and intergovernmental bodies on the prevention and resolution of conflicts. He has taught at Bard College.
