Former counsellor of international strategies to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini in 2014, and Special Advisor to the High Representatives of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini (2015-2019) and Josep Borrell (2020-2021), today Tocci is also professor at the School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute, honorary professor at the University of Tübingen, Europe’s Futures fellow at the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (IWM) and non-executive and independent director of Acea. She will join Jonhs Hopkins SAIS Europe faculty as Professor of the Practice beginning in the 2025–26 academic year.
Author of numerous scholarly papers, she frequently publishes commentary in the press, with regular editorials in Politico Europe and La Stampa, as well as being a regular guest on the BBC’s The Context. She is also frequently interviewed by the major international television and print news sources, including Al Jazeera, BBC, Bloomberg, CNN, Euronews, PBS, Sky, The New York Times, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, El Pais, The Guardian, Le Monde, and Deutsche Welle.
Her latest book publication is called La grande incertezza. Navigare le contraddizioni del disordine globale [The Great Uncertainty: Navigating the Contradictions of Global Disorder] (Mondadori, 2024).
Her research interests concern European integration and European foreign policy, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, transatlantic relations, multilateralism, conflict resolution, energy, the climate, and defence.
