Born in Bologna, his journalism career began in September 1980 at the Gazzetta dello Sport. Over the years, he has covered 10 World Cups and 10 European Championships, was editor of the magazines Autosprint and Dieci, and was a RAI pundit on the programs Quelli che il calcio, Domenica sportiva and Il sabato della DS from 2002 to 2018.

A judge on Italy’s Dancing with the Stars for sixteen years, he has been a regular pundit on Tiki Taka hosted by Piero Chiambretti and is a pundit on Pressing, also on Italia 1.

He has worked with the Sun, European, Folha di San Paolo, Libero, Radio Bandeirantes and has won around 30 awards including the Beppe Viola, the Giuseppe Prisco, the Gino Palumbo, twice the Paolo Valenti, the Nereo Rocco, the Niccolò Galli and twice the Tommaso Maestrelli.

He authored the biographies of Roberto Baggio Una porta nel cielo [A door in the sky] (TEA) and Pantani un eroe tragico [Pantani a tragic hero] (Mondadori) from which a film was made for Rai1; the book-takedown of Giuseppe Gazzoni, Il sindaco pescatore [The fisherman mayor] (Mondadori) which inspired the TV film for Rai 1 with Sergio Castellitto, and Diventare Mourinho [Becoming Mourinho] (Sperling & Kupfer).

Since 2005 he has hosted the popular Radio Deejay program Deejay Football Club with Fabio Caressa.
