A full professor of digital humanities, information philosophy and digital publishing at Roma Tre University, he is a member of the Ministry of Culture’s scientific council for the Fondazione Scuola of Cultural Heritage and Activities, as well as an honorary professor at the Universidad Nacional de Villa María in Argentina.
He was a writer, director and scientific consultant for many Rai Cultura programs looking at the digital world and internet culture. He has also published many books and research articles on these themes, including his hit series of manuals for using the Internet (over 100 000 copies sold), which between 1993 and 2004 guided a generation of users in their discovery of the internet.
Between 1983 and 1996, before moving into an academic career, he was a librarian-documentalist for the Chamber of Deputies, handling the Historic Archive’s first digitalization projects.
His latest book, already in its fifth reprint, is called L’architetto e l’oracolo: forme digitali del sapere fra Wikipedia e Chat GPT [The Architect and the Oracle: digital forms of knowing between Wikipedia and Chat GPT] (Laterza, 2023).
He gives lessons and conferences also in English.
