He was chosen by Corriere della Sera as one of the twenty people who are changing Italy and combines his passion for insects with a strong ecological spirit. Gianumberto Accinelli was born in Bologna in 1969, He studied with the professors Giorgio Celli and Stefano Maini for his degree in agriculture, with particular focus on biological pest control, and then did his PhD which involved experiments with biological pest control.
Currently, in addition to directing the Eugea group, which he founded, he also teaches environmental storytelling at the Free University of Anghiari, directed by Duccio Demetrio, and Natural Sciences at the Manzoni scientific high school in Bologna.
His publications include La meravigliosa vita delle farfalle [The Marvelous Life of Butterflies] and La meravigliosa vita delle api [The Marvelous Life of Bees] (both published by Edizioni Pendragon), I fili invisibili della natura [The Invisible Threads of Nature] (Lapis Edizioni), Breve storia di un raggio di sole [Short History of a Ray of Sun], Altri fili invisibili della natura [Other Invisible Threads of Nature]. He won the prestigious “German Youth Literature Award”.
For over three years, he has been telling his stories about nature to Fabio Volo on the radio show “Il Volo del Mattino”, on Radio Deejay, and is a frequent guest on the TV programme “Bel Tempo Si Spera” on TV 2000 and “Geo&Geo” on Rai 3.
