Associate Professor in Geopolitics and Contemporary History of North Africa and the Middle East at La Sapienza University in Rome and columnist for La Stampa, she is Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Rafik Hariri Center and the Middle East Programs of the Atlantic Council, member of the scientific committee of the Fondazione Med-Or, Vice Director of the “Migration and Development” Master’s course at la Sapienza and educator in the Middle Eastern Studies master’s degree (MIMES) at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.

She has taken part in various work groups within the Track-2 programs promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, focusing on political and economic dynamics and security in present-day Libya, as well as on issues of religious freedom and human rights in the Middle East. She was Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre d’Etudes et de Documentation Économiques, Juridiques et Sociales (CEDEJ) and the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies (IDEO), both in Cairo.

Her research focuses on conflict and governance in the Middle East and North Africa, geopolitics and international relations in the Euro-Mediterranean region, present-day identity and polarization dynamics in the Middle East, as well as political and social concerns in contemporary Egypt and Libya. She has published numerous monographs, peer-reviewed articles in Italian and international journals and policy papers for international think tanks on these topics. She regularly participates in conferences and seminars both in Italy and abroad, and contributes to television programs as an analyst of international politics.

She speaks English fluently.
