Born in Modena, at 24 he began his working in radio and print. He then moved to TV, mostly as a producer on Rai with the programs Sciuscià, AnnoZero and Report. Since 2024 he has co-hosted 100 minuti, a prime-time investigative documentary program on La7, with Corrado Formigli.

Over his career he has received important prizes and recognitions, and has made numerous investigative documentaries, including Toghe sporche [Dirty togas] (l’Espresso, 2003), La mafia è bianca [The mafia is white] (Bur Rizzoli, 2005), Passato Prossimo [Past Perfect] (La7, 2005), Il grande bluff [The great bluff] (Rai3, 2015), 121269 Inchiesta su Piazza Fontana [121269 Inquest on Piazza Fontana] (podcast, Dersu/Audible Original, 2020), Il basso impero colpisce ancora [The secret empire strikes again] and I Fuorilegge [The Outlaws] (La7, 2022).

He contributes to a variety of Italian and international investigative newspapers, organizes and facilitates meetings and workshops, and teaches investigative journalism and storytelling techniques at master’s degree programs, nonprofit organizations, and universities.

He is founder of Dersu, a company that produces documentaries and podcasts but also financial and journalistic investigations, and co-founder and director of DIG, an international festival that has celebrated and supported investigative journalism since 2015.
