While the world watched Gaza from afar, Gennaro Giudetti was on the ground, witnessing the destruction, the suffering and the daily consequences of the war. Written out of an urgent need to bear witness, With My Own Eyes seeks to place before readers a direct account of what happened, resisting the risk that these events might be distorted, denied or eventually forgotten.
From June to July 2024, and again from February to September 2025, Gennaro Giudetti entered the Gaza Strip as a humanitarian worker for the World Health Organization, coordinating the logistics of aid to the Palestinian population. During this time he also documented, through his social media accounts, the devastation caused by the bombings. Back in Italy, he felt a single, pressing need: to tell what he had seen.
The book is a detailed and deeply personal account of those months, an emotional yet lucid narrative of the violence, the destruction and the human cost of the conflict, including the loss of several of his colleagues. With My Own Eyes is both a testimony and a record, a story that aims to remain as a warning against attempts to obscure, manipulate or erase what happened, the testimony of someone who was there.
