The Republic of ideas

The Republic of Ideas, instalment four. The 2015 edition of the newspaper’s festival was held in Genoa, from 4th to 7th June, and was entitled “Rethinking the world”; although ambitious, this topic made it possible to outline all the items on the agenda from a forward-looking perspective. Four days with over 80 events and 200 speakers: these are the figures for an appointment which was hugely attended, also this year, by an audience from all over Italy. The featured guests included the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkul Karman, writers Alessandro Baricco and Niccolò Ammaniti, the founder of Slow Food Carlo Petrini, actors Claudio Bisio and Alba Rohrwacher, plus two great singer-songwriters: Paolo Conte and Ivano Fossati.
The Genoa edition of Webnotte also went on stage, on Friday night in Piazza Matteotti, with Assante and Castaldo and their guests: Marco Mengoni, I Camillas, Gruppo Spontaneo Trallallero, Max Paiella and the Mark Hanna Band. A particularly heartfelt moment was the public interview with Eugenio Scalfari.
It was not just about words, but also images. For example, Gipi gave a talk on the graphic novel, while cartoons were also the subject of presentations by Altan and Adriano Sofri, as well as by Massimo Bucchi.
Last but not least, a much-awaited event was the talk by the archistar Renzo Piano on “The essence of an architect is a spirit of adventure”.
