Palamedes, the Erased Hero

Elastica returns to the theatre with an absolute preview: Palamedes, the Erased Hero, by and with Alessandro Baricco, on 28th, 29th and 30th October 2015 at the Olimpico Theatre in Vicenza as part of the series “Il Ciclo dei Classici” curated by Emma Dante.

It is quite rare to find someone who knows who Palamedes was. However, during the legendary times of the Trojan war, Palamedes was one of the most famous Achaean heroes. He was sentenced to death (unjustly) because Odysseus accused him of having sold Achaean war plans to the Trojans. Obviously it was just a cutthroat duel between two intellectual elites: the winner was Odysseus who fabricated false evidence of Palamedes’ guilt. The great hero was thus stoned to death and his name systematically erased from memory. Palamedes, however, was a genial character and his legend has made it to the modern age through a few virtually unknown narratives which Alessandro Baricco collected and turned into a performance.

This event is produced by Elastica. Live&Comunicazion; it is basically divided into four parts: in the prologue, Baricco himself appears on stage to outline the character, his history and vicissitudes; the second part features Michele Di Mauro who will be narrating the epic of the Greek hero by building a crystal architecture; then Valeria Solarino will be the voice of Palamedes for the defense argument before his being sentenced to death. Finally, Baricco returns on stage for the epilogue.
