Torino and its magnificent Teatro Regio were the backdrop to the second edition of “My name is Luca – Ballata con Vialli”, a project requested and promoted by Fondazione Vialli e Mauro per lo Sport Onlus, who once again relied on the expertise of the Elastica team for the entire event: from casting talent to writing content, from the visual identity to communication, from liaising with institutions and the media to administration, from executive production to live direction.

Not a traditional tribute, nor a simple benefit event, or a mere commemoration: just like at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa in 2024, so too the third anniversary since Vialli’s passing was designed as collective experience, in which sports narrative met the mediums of theatre and live music to honour not just the champion but above all the man Gianluca Vialli, teammate and leader who transformed his talent into an inspiration.

Meticulous attention was paid by Elastica to the lineup, crafting an orchestration of voices that would give life to a multifaceted narrative, alternating between moments of pure emotion and moments of light-heartedness, and who could speak from the heart without sacrificing reflection. Among the leading names specifically chosen for their ability to bring a different perspective, a specific language, a piece of Vialli’s history, were: Roberto Mancini, Gigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Fabrizio Ravanelli, Ciro Ferrara, Gianluca Pessotto, Attilio Lombardo and Luciano Spalletti, who brought to the stage the Vialli who was a teammate, a leader in the locker room, a source of both personal and professional guidance. Accompanying them were the voices of storytellers, journalists and writers – among which were Alessandro Cattelan, Matteo Bussola, Walter Veltroni, Pietro Sermonti, Federico Buffa, Andrea & Michele and Marco Ponti – who interwove football with literature, cinema, collective memory and sports narrative. Live music and theatrical poetry were given central roles, with the emotionally moving piano-playing of Gloria Campaner and performances by Pietro Brunello, Scarlet Rivera, the Eugenio in Via di Gioia and Vinicio Capossela.

Equally meticulous was the work devoted to the dramatic structure built around Vialli’s “seasons,” in which the sporting seasons were used as chapters in a biographical ballad set to the music of those years, alternating between one-on-one conversations, monologues, and testimonials. The narrative thread running through the evening was Linus’s guiding narration.

In consultation with the Fondazione, a significant portion of the script was devoted to describing the practical work of the Fondazione Vialli e Mauro in research and aid, turning the evening into an opportunity for raising awareness as well as funds.

From conception to execution, we worked to ensure that every element – the writing, the images, the music choice, the stage direction, the coordination between partners and institutions – contributed to the transformation of remembering a champion into a collective ballad of stories, music and values, bring to the stage not only the life of Gianluca Vialli, but also his way of being in the world, with courage, light-heartedness, responsibility and attention to others, which still today continues to make a cultural, media and social impact.

Alongside the artistic direction and production, Elastica curated the entire communication strategy, through press coverage and social storytelling. The major daily newspapers, sports publications and cultural magazines devoted ample space to the event, spreading the message of solidarity and memory tied to the figure of Gianluca Vialli; at the same time, a content plan was carried out on Fondazione Vialli e Mauro’s social media channels, uniting highlights and interviews with the participants, capturing the intensity of a collective project in real time.

Thanks to an authentic and coherent narrative, the communication was able to elevate a tribute into a shared experience, selling out and attracting nationwide attention, bringing “My name is Luca” and the foundation bearing his name and that of Massimo Mauro, now its president, to a much wider audience than just the Teatro Regio, ensuring it remains an indelible memory for all who experienced it.
