The republic of ideas

“I believed it when teachers told me I was an idiot and, therefore, had no future. I could not see myself in progress. Adults never tell you that you should stop worrying because everything will be alright sooner or later, that time passes”. Daniel Pennac, the “former dunce” – as he sometimes calls himself – was one of the most acclaimed guests at Repubblica delle Idee in Palermo, on 18th and 19th October 2014. “Let’s go back to school” was the title of the two-day event featuring as speakers Ilvo Diamanti and Minister Stefania Giannini, Elena Stancanelli, Massimo Ammaniti, Concita De Gergorio, to mention but a few. Welcome speeches from the town dignitaries, together with Carlo De Benedetti and Ezio Mauro, were given by Mayor Leoluca Orlando and by Regional Governor Rosario Crocetta. On Saturday evening Next was staged, the format curated by Riccardo Luna with the best of innovation Made in Italy.
“Repubblica has always communicated effectively with schools – said De Benedetti in his opening speech. We are the first website connected to numerous Italian schools. I am pleased to see so many young people here, even on a hot day and with the sea is so enticing. We trust that what will help you make a difference in the future is how much knowledge you are able to collect”.
