With the appointment of the first European Rector, the Franco-Belgian Renaud Dehousse, at the head of the American university, Elastica inaugurates a collaboration with Johns Hopkins SAIS Europe’s for their communications, an institution which enrolls around 200 students from more than 40 countries each year.
With a press conference at the Bologna headquarters and a ceremony in the centrally located Palazzo Re Enzo in Bologna, the city where the American university was founded almost 70 years ago, we collaborated to reiterate and renew SAIS Europe’s relationship with the Italian press, working with the figure of the new Rector with particular focus on the current complex geopolitical scenario. The debut was, in fact, an editorial written by Dehousse himself on the national pages of one of the leading newspapers of the Italian press, and then continued with an introductory meeting to the local and national press, at the institution’s headquarters.
The mission was to relaunch SAIS Europe as a bridging university center between different parts of the world, not only for its direct collaboration with the main SAIS campus in Washington D.C. and with its historic program in Nanjing, China, but also its intersection of academic, research and conference activities in Europe, in neighboring African countries and in the Mediterranean basin.
January 31st then continued with the official inauguration ceremony at Palazzo Re Enzo, in the heart of Bologna, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Italy Jack Markell, the president of Johns Hopkins University Ronald J. Daniels, the mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the rector of the University of Bologna Giovanni Molari and around 450 guests, including institutional figures, stakeholders and students. Broadcast journalist Barbara Serra was master of ceremony.
