Internet pioneer, founder and president of dPixel, Gianluca Dettori is one of the greatest experts on high-tech and digital innovation in Italy.
Gianluca Dettori has been analysing the internet for over 20 years, and for 15 his focus has been on start-ups and technological venture capital.
With a degree in Business Studies from Turin University, he started working for the Olivetti Group at Italia On Line, which then became Libero.it, as marketing manager, marketing director and business director; he then went to work as General Manager for Italy at Lycos Bertelsmann, launching on the domestic market the first worldwide online search engine.
In 1999 he co-founded Vitaminic, a platform for web and mobile digital music distribution, managing a team of 150 people across eight markets, leading it to be listed on the Italian New Market Stock Exchange in the year 2000.
Gianluca has collected more than 50 million euro to develop his own start-up, from structured international venture capital investors and public markets. As angel investor (im3D, Sitonline, Urbissimo, Banzai, Liquida) and then as partner of dPixel, over the past ten years, he has been personally following dozens of start-up enterprises in the digital and medical sector. He writes about Internet and Venture Capital on Wired, Nova at “Il Sole 24 Ore” and Chefuturo, as well as on his blog dgil.uz. He is a Kauffman Fellow and member of the Kauffman Society, Fellow of the BMW Stiftung foundation, Dettori is also an advisory board member at Assolombarda with regard to equity crowdfunding and expert on the Sharexpo project team. In 2013 he was appointed by the European Commission as advisor in respect of the FF-PPP Future Internet Accelerators project, which has funded 16 startup accelerators in Europe, focusing on the subject of smart applications.
Dettori has lectured on the multi-faceted aspects of digital innovation: from innovative start-ups to crowdsourcing, from new technologies for the retail sector to innovation in the music industry, from venture capital to e-commerce. He is also often invited as a speaker for corporate as well as institutional events.
