Gad Lerner

He is one of the most appreciated journalists on Italian TV, promoter and host of television formats which have made the history of television broadcasting.

Gad Lerner was born in Beirut in a Jewish family. He started working as journalist after an experience with Lotta Continua, then worked at Radio Popolare before joining the editorial board at L’Espresso. In the early 1990s he started working in television for Guglielmi’s Raitre, with two programmes dedicated to Northern Italy issues: Profondo Nord and Milano, Italia. Ezio Mauro invited him to work for La Stampa as deputy editor in 1993; he then worked as reporter and editorialist for Corriere della sera and Repubblica.

He returned to Rai with two editions of Pinocchio, then in 2000 he was appointed director of Tg1 but resigned a few months later. In 2001 he was one of the founders of the TV channel La7. He directed its news section, started the programme Otto e mezzo with Giuliano Ferrara, and hosted – every week for ten years – L’Infedele from 2002 to 2012. In the spring of 2013 he produced, also for La7, Zeta, the comedy of power, before leaving the channel which he contributed to founding. He chairs the editorial board at Laeffe, the television of the Feltrinelli Group. He writes for Nigrizia. In november of 2016 he was back on the Rai television broadcasting as author and anchor man of Islam – Italia, aired on Rai 3, wich explained the transformation lived by our society.

His books include: Operai [Workers] (Feltrinelli, 1987, reprinted in 2010); Crociate. Il millennio dell’odio [Crusades. The Millennium of Hate] (Rizzoli, 2000); Tu sei un bastardo. Contro l’abuso delle identità [You are a Bastard. Against the Abuse of Identity] (Feltrinelli, 2005); Scintille. Una storia di anime vagabonde [Sparks. A History of Wandering Souls], (Feltrinelli 2009).

As a journalist and intellectual he is often invited to discuss major current affairs, specifically religious conflicts in the south of the Mediterranean and immigration issues. He is also appreciated in the business community due to his economic expertise. He also has in-depth knowledge of all topics related to the sphere of information.
